For many of us Filipinos, the Christmas season by far our favorite time of the year. What I personally like most about this time is the feeling of joy I get as I hop from one Christmas party after another exchanging gifts and stories with friends and family but mostly seeing people who I have not seen in a long time and miss dearly. This season always reminds me of one of the important factors needed to live balanced lives: having supportive ties and relationships.
On the other hand, the holiday season is too often used as an excuse to make some poor nutrition choices. While I personally am not against treating myself to food within reason, too often I see patients who have had a stellar year in terms of recovery from chronic illness only to see their hard work go to waste over the holidays in a fit of overindulgence. Most people over consume cakes, sweets, meat and alcohol leading to a higher number of visit to the emergency room from complications of hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and other flares/ exacerbations of chronic conditions. For this reason, I’d like to help by offering some of my tips to help manage the toxic load about to come your way this Christmas season.
Hopefully these very simple tips will help you feel more energetic and less bloated over the Christmas Holidays! We at Nutrigineering wish everyone Happy Holidays and hope to see everyone healthy and ready for 2019 come this January!
